759 OGILVIE HARDWARE COMPANY, 1911-2000

9 linear ft.

Collection Inventory

Ogilvie Hardware was one of the largest jobbers of hardware in the Ark-La-Tex area and had been operating since 1908, when it first came into existence under the corporate name of Thomas-Davidson-Ogilvie Hardware Co. Inc. Ltd. The original incorporators were R. J. Ogilvie, E. A. Thomas, and Fred Davidson. They began business at the corner of Travis and Strand streets. Upon the death of Mr. Davidson in 1912, the name of the company was changed to Thomas-Ogilvie Hardware. In 1915, Mr. Thomas withdrew from the firm and Mr. Ogilvie succeeded him as president of the company, the position which he held continuously until 1979. Ninety-two years later it closed, putting an end to three generations of Ogilvie's family owned business. This collection contains ledgers, photographs and memorabilia from this historic business.
