Shreveport's "Simply Ballroom" an amateur ballroom
dance group, started with four members in 1994 and one year later had
one-hundred fifty members. It joined the USA Dance Association as
Chapter #5015 and its basic purpose is to promote ballroom dancing
in the local community and to educate the public regarding the physical,
mental, and social benefits of ballroom dancing.
These four scrapbooks contain photographs, programs, and fliers. |

Collection Inventory |
Virgil L. Dixon was born October 7, 1908 to William Hamilton
and Ella Leshe Dixon and he died November 8, 2004. A lifelong resident of
Shreveport, Louisiana, his first job was working for the National Biscuit Company.
He also pursued a job with the Shreveport Times as manager of the
City Circulation Department. In 1937, he was employed by the
Shreveport Post Office and in 1962, he was appointed Postmaster and
maintained this job until his retirement in 1972.
This small collection is mainly his certificates and awards from
these years along with some photographs. |

Ron Rice was born in Waco, Texas in 1933, and moved with his family to Shreveport in 1937.
He attended public schools in Shreveport and graduated from Fair Park High School in 1951. From there,
he attended college at Centenary on a baseball scholarship, was drafted into the army, then he attended Ringling
Art School Florida and worked in Dalllas. After returning to Shreveport, Rice worked as a graphic artist for both the
Shreveport Times and the Shreveport Journal. He also was commissioned to do drawings and caricatures
of people all over the Ark-La-Tex. Though an artist, Rice had a huge affinity for sports and spent much of his time
coaching baseball for every age range. This collection contains samples of all types of Rice's work: illustrations,
editorial cartoon, caricatures, marketing and promotions, and personal interests. |
