301 ROBINSON PLANTATION RECORDS, 1885-1945. |

John M. Robinson, Caddo Parish planter, born at Cotton Point,
Louisiana in 1887; graduated from Washington and Lee University; married
Miss Mattie G. Hutchinson. Managed large plantation properties in Caddo Parish,
including a commissary which grew into an extensive mercantile business. These
records consist of 78 ledgers consisting of: day books, plantation accounts, personal
accounts, cotton accounts, merchandise sales, freight and ginning accounts,
and cash-credit accounts. |

303 PRIMITIVE BAPTIST ASSOCIATION MINUTES, 1847-1989. |

The Louisiana Primitive Baptist Association was
organized September 11, 1851 at Pilgrim’s Rest Church in Jackson Parish.
Elders from the individual Primitive Baptist Churches met to form an association.
They prepared the Constitution, Abstracts of Faith and Rules of Decorum.
The Association meets once a year, and member churches send three delegates
each to the annual meeting. These records consist of minutes of the
Louisiana Primitive Baptist Association annual meetings, as well as minutes
from individual member churches. Also included are minutes of other Primitive
Baptist Associations in Texas, Arkansas, and Mississippi. |

The Shreveport Fire Department was organized as a
professional department in 1891. Included in this collection are daily records,
yearly reports, and correspondence from the early fire department and Chief Chris O’Brien’s
administration. Additionally, the collection comprises station books from Central Fire Station
(#2) such as day books written by the "House Captain," apparatus books, fire alarm records,
miscellaneous log books, financial ledgers, and pay roll listings. |

Shreveport, known also as Ledbetter Heights. Many of the photographers

Correspondence between Mary Jane Chamberlain,
a governess from the North, living on a plantation near Natchez, Mississippi,
and Nathan Cornell, a teacher at Union College in Schenectady, New York, and
Fayette Seminary in Iowa. Cornell was also an itinerant preacher in Mississippi.
These letters chronicle their relationship and discuss some significant events of
the 1850’s such as yellow fever, slavery, and the presidential election of 1856. |
