Hypatia, the oldest women’s club in Shreveport,
was organized in 1894. The purpose of the club was intellectual development
and social stimulation. These records include minutes, scrapbooks, programs,
and yearbooks. Also included is "A History of Hypatia," compiled and written
by Esther C. Conway. |

The Amanda Clark Home was chartered and articles of
incorporation were drawn up November 20, 1930. Its purpose was to provide a
home for elderly blacks of both sexes. It was founded by Mrs. M. Van Der Sluys.
These records include Articles of Incorporation, By-laws, Board of Directors Minutes,
balance sheets and correspondence. |

Samford C. Fullilove, Jr. is the descendant of a
Northwest Louisiana pioneer family. The papers document important aspects
of Fullilove family history in letters, diaries, memoirs, genealogies, clippings,
and photographs. Of particular interest is the Civil War correspondence of his
maternal great-grandfather, Zack Howell, and the memoirs from the same period of
his paternal grandmother, Elizabeth J. Samford Fullilove. |

Tandy Key Giddens was born in Ringgold, Louisiana,
September 27, 1868. The first years of his life were spent on a farm near Ringgold.
At the age of 20, he invested in a store in Ringgold that went bankrupt after
three years. He then set up a small store in Red River Parish and married
Miss Fannie Crawford. They later sold the store, moved to Campti, Louisiana,
and raised their family. Tandy Giddens went into the real estate and timber
business and in 1917, moved to Shreveport, where he invested in property and oil.
These memoirs reflect the life of T. K. Giddens from his birth until the age of 60.
They cover his early life in Ringgold, various business efforts, and family life. |
