321 THE STRAND RECORDS, 1923-1987.

The Strand Theatre was built in 1925 by Julian and Abe Saenger and Harry and Simon Ehrlich. The architect was Emile Weil of New Orleans. The Strand was built as a combination movie and legitimate theatre house. It opened July 3, 1925. It operated under the management of Saenger-Ehrlich Enterprises until 1929 when it was acquired by Paramount Pictures, who operated it as a movie house until the early 1970’s. In 1977, it was purchased by the Strand Theatre Corporation and restored. These records include architectural drawings, programs and publicity, clippings and photographs relating to the history of The Strand, 1925-1970’s. The bulk of the material relates to the restoration of the theatre. These materials include correspondence, minutes, financial records, and legal documents of The Strand Theatre Corp. Also included are photographs of the restoration process.

322 SHREVEPORT SESQUICENTENNIAL COMMISSION RECORDS, 1983-1986.

The Sesquicentennial Commission was formed in 1984 with the specific objective of promoting, supporting, and developing programs to benefit the citizens of Shreveport in connection with the Sesquicentennial Celebration of Shreveport’s 150th birthday. These records include the Articles of Incorporation and by-laws, minutes, correspondence and contracts of the commission. Also included are correspondence, budgets, minutes, lists, programs and photographs regarding the various commission committees and projects.

Dan P. Logan was a long-time, successful cotton farmer in Caddo Parish. With over 50 years experience in cotton farming, Logan began to make notes and write articles and books on cotton farming. These papers include notes, drafts, correspondence, photographs and slides regarding cotton farming in Caddo Parish.
