Types of Archival Material
The
Archives houses and services to the
public the following materials, which do not circulate
and must be used in the Archives Reading Room during
regular service hours.
Archival Collections
Collections
of primary source materials on Northwest Louisiana
history. Letters, diaries, ledgers, minutes,
reports, manuscripts, scrapbooks, etc. documenting
families, businesses, organizations, governmental agencies, clubs, etc. significant to Northwest
Louisiana. Finding aids: Guide to Archives and Manuscript

collection inventories.
Louisiana Collection
Special
Collection of secondary source material (books,
magazines, pamphlets, etc.) by Louisiana authors or
about Louisiana topics. Cataloged on the computer
through LOUIS and serviced through the Archives.
Vertical Files
Newspaper
clipping files on topics relating to Northwest Louisiana. The
date range within these files cover circa 1978 and continue
through 1990. All vertical file citations from 1991 to
the present for the Shreveport Times are available
online in
the Indexes.

Oral History
Oral
history interviews document 20th century regional
history where written records are not available and
supplement significant archival collections. Tapes and
transcripts are available. For an alphabetical

Photograph Collection
The
Archives houses of 20,000 cataloged photographs and
200,000 negatives that document the visual heritage of
Northwest Louisiana, 1890s to the present.

Map Collection
The
Archives houses hundreds of maps of Louisiana,
Northwest Louisiana, Shreveport, Bossier, Red River,
and area lakes, early 1800's to present. Finding aid: Archives card catalog.
Newspapers
The
Noel Memorial Library, Microforms and Media Department
houses a large number of Louisiana newspapers on
microfilm. A listing is available in the
Archives.
Newspaper Index
The
Archives has indexed the Shreveport Times from
1871-1899. A list of topics and citations is available
in the Archives.
Faculty, Thesis, and Rare Books
Books
and articles by LSUS faculty, MLA theses, and rare
books are cataloged through LOUIS and serviced through
the Archives.
